What to make Wednesday!

Last week I showed you some windows I found and hope to repurpose.  I promised somewhere along the way that I would post some pictures of a window I took from our old house, and made into a super cute wedding display.  Take a look

This hangs in our family room and I think its super cute.

I added an 8x10 in the side window panes using some glue dots, scrapbooking adhesive.
The  "D" in the center pane is an uppercaseliving vinyl sticker.

If you have repurposed something, created or crafted, maybe you have something you dont know what to make out of it, post your link below for everyone to see.

Thanks for stopping by!

Etsy Homefront Team

I recently joined an Etsy Team.  Hoping to promote my shop and get more sales.  I wont lie, I want more sales. But, what I didnt know, was that I would find an Etsy team that was made up of other men and women who are also military spouses, or veterans.  What a great way to help out our military families!  Crafting and having an Etsy shop is certainly a distraction from my own husbands dangerous job.  There isnt anything that clears my mind of fear and anxiety then sitting in front of the sewing machine or cutting and pasting paper. Not only do I feel better after crafting, but sometimes I make him something too, so its win win.  lol

This is a fellow Homefront Team members blog .   Right now she has a giveaway going on for some super yummy Thimbleberries fabric and a Seamingly Accurate Seam Guide

Check out her post here to enter.

Do you know of any good blog giveaways?  Leave me a comment with the link and I will add it to this post.
Enjoy!

I am hoping to get started on it this weekend and I know I will have a bit of catch up to do.
Mamabee is also participating in a quilt along that is super cute and a great place to start if you are new to quilting. Its being hosted by i have to say If I had better time management skills I would do them both, I have the perfect fabric in my stash for that quilt, even the right amount of each.  Some quilting friends and I hit the New Years day sale at the Stitching Post they carry all my favorite brands except for Amy Butler.  I've yet to find a good local source for her stuff but the search is still on.

On a different note I am hoping to get some new items posted in my shop today.  Some little lovey blankies perfect baby gift.  Here is a peak...

What to make with it!

This feature started with a trip into someone elses trash. Sometimes that's where you find the best things! Anywho, while heading out to the fabric store I eyed these beauties

I have about a dozen of these.  Someone recently replaced their windows and I scored these!  The problem is, what should I do with them?  So, I thought it would be fun to start a linky list, and you can post things you need some creative help with and I could get some ideas too! With your help I hope to keep this going every week.
I am also looking for a button to share so we can all link back to this post.  If you have any ideas please leave a comment, I might even make a giveaway out of this, hmmmm...

Mini Altered Mailbox how-to

Kids had off from school yesterday(Monday) So I am one day behind already this week.

A few posts back I promised a how to for the mini mailboxes. (I just cant get enough of these little things!)

Here goes.

Start with your plain metal mini mailbox.  The dimensions of these from Target are roughly 3.5 x 5 inches. They come in a variety of colors.  Have fun with it.

You will need the basic paper crafting supplies, scissors, 12inch paper cutter, double sided tape, pencil and 3//8 inch circle punch.  You need to pick out some 12 inch paper to cover the body of the mailbox and the two end caps.

I skipped a step in my photo taking. to cover the body of the mail box measure your mailbox from side to side and cut your paper to fit.  I used a 3/8 inch circle punch to cut a whole to fit around the end of the flag. you can do this with scissors too. I applied double stick tape around all the sides and around the edges by the flag. You want to make sure the edges by the flag are secure or when you move the flag the paper will catch and tear ;(.
This photo shows tracing one of the end caps on the backside of the paper you choose.  Cut two. use double stick tape again to secure.

I used my scallop punch to make a cute flag topper. You can use any shape or leave it blank.

Here is my flag topper, I also added a circle sticker that matched my paper.

I went to my ribbon stash and found this 1/8 inch korked ribbon.  I knotted it around the stem of the flag for some extra flare.

I like to add a little pull to the front of the mailbox to get the door open. I punched a hole in the front through the paper and tin.  I just used a hammer and my eyelet whole punch. Here you can see the chipboard pretties I chose to add.

I used two pieces of ribbon.  tie them together with a large know in the middle of both and feed them thru your hole. This secures the ribbon.

Thread the ribbon thru your chipboard and knot again. I tied each color individually to give it some personality. Add some liquid gle to secure your last knot. Trim your ribbon and use a lighter to heat seal the ends.

I added some chipboard letters to the side of my mailbox.  I like to use Mono adhesive to adhere my shapes. Lay your mailbox on its side so your elements lay flat until they dry.

And here is the finished product.

I left the other side blank as this one is for sale.  I like to add a name with either chipboard letters or sticker letters. You could also just add a sentiment of some sort for the holiday. I also added some 1/4 inch ribbon around the edges.  This isnt necessary but I had some in a coordinating color.  I used double sided tape to adhere this as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like me to make one of these for you.

To do slash reading list

I am terrible about reading one book at a time.  At some point I find a new book that looks so good that I have to pick it up and start reading it right away instead of finishing the other one in progress.  Eventually I finish the other ones, but not without several in progress.

While at the store today I saw some new books that  I need to add to my reading list.  I promised myself I wouldnt buy them until the others are done this time, we will see how long that lasts.  So here are my books in progress and my list of books to read. Have you read any of these? I would love to hear your thoughts, any good books you have read lately and share your reading lists too.

Books in progress-
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
48 Days to the work you love by Dan Miller and Dave Ramsey
No More Mondays by Dan Miller

Books I want to read-
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson
Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert

Hey there Mr Postman

I am working on the making of a tutorial to decorate these little cuties, and let me tell you , its a very slow process. Lots of steps have been left out of the photo process, but its coming along.

Here are a few more Mini's I finished and will be listing at some point today. Comments are always welcome and I love custom orders!

Enjoy

The purple ribbon on this one looks blue in the picture but it actually matches the purple on the little flag topper.  I know a good friend will be right there to let everyone know I am color blind(not really;) but I assure you it really does match.  I was in a sparkly mood when I made these so check out the rhinestones!

If you have a strawberry shortcake fan then this one is for you. I knew I would have a hard time parting with this one, so I made myself one too! Check out the back.

More bling!

You've got mail!

I posted a few days back about these cute little tin mailboxes I picked up at our Target.  I cut, glued and pasted these babies up and have one to share with you today.  It took me a little longer then I had hoped as I tried to document the process in pictures. That post will come in a few days after I am able to edit thru some of the photos.  As I promised, you can find these in my shop here.  If you cant find these at a target by you I would be more then happy to sell you a plain one for you to decorate.  Just send me an email at emailsewcute@gmail.com

This mailbox is rockstar pink, decorated with Creative Memories- Delight Shopper Diva paper, stickers and a few glittery chipboard peices I had in my stash.  Its ready to be presonalized with a message or a name of your choice.  These would make really cute teacher gifts, or party favors filled with your favorites snacks and candies or just a simple love note for that special someone.  They also make great places for you to leave your kids a little note or get one for yourself and they can leave you a note or two.  The little flag moves up and down so you know when a surpirse is waiting inside.  More of these will be listed as the week goes by.

Enjoy

Orders, I love them

Wanted to share this little cutie that someone ordered.  I wasnt quite sure of the fabric selection but a friend promised me I was making the right choice.  I think it came out great, hope the new owner feels the same way.  It will be on its way to her tomorrow but here is a peak at the finished product.

Valentine Rag Tote Bags

The Rag tote craze is in full effect at our house and in my shop.  I love the look and feel of the cotton and flannel fabric.  One new years day we visited a little quilt shop north of here and pick up some of my favorite fabric, Moda.  I fell in love with it all but managed to leave with just a few prints, enough to make some for me and share some with others, so the next day or two, check out my etsy shop for new goodies! But hurry, they are going fast!

Target Mailboxes are here!

Altered Target Mailbox

Im not sure what my obsession with these little cuties is, but I love them!  I was able to get my hands on 4 a couple years ago and decorated them for my kids.  They still love them and still play with them.  Big surpise for this group!  Next week I will be listing some of these decorated and ready to personalize, and if you have something else in mind, I am taking requests for special orders.  I am addicted to scrapbook paper of all brands, so you name it and I probably have it. If you have a theme in mind I can put a group of papers and accesories together for you and get started on your mini mailbox!  If you arent fortunate to have a target with these nearby I would be happy to sell them blank for you to personalize.

Here are some before pictures. Others to come next week of the finished product. Enjoy

Pincushion thread collector

A few weeks back a friend posted about a pincushion and I have had some interest so I thought this was blog worthy.  A friend and I had talked of making one of these for some time and finally found a tutorial here that I altered in a few ways to fit my style. We were in love with the finished product so we blessed Mamabees house with one and I hope she loves it too!  She is super crafty and fits right in on our street!  She makes the cutest crayon rolls, kiddie aprons and Puppet show curtains!  Visit her etsy shop here.

As promised here are a few pictures of the last one that we made. Enjoy!
